Seize the f***ing day! [St. Jane Archives]

It’s okay…

·To not know everything

Does it ever feel like some people have all the answers? You know that one person who is so certain of everything that they do or say, and seems to have the right response to everything? Well, I have news: they don’t know everything. I guarantee that even the most annoying, know-it-all human on this planet has fears and doubts. No one is perfect. You’re not perfect, I’m not perfect, and Mr. Goody Two Shoes is certainly not perfect. It’s okay to ask questions. The only way to grow, and to learn more, in fact, is to ask questions. Don’t let anyone bring you down, or tell you that you’re stupid when you don’t have the answer to something. Ask questions, and continue to grow!

·To not have your entire life planned out

I am that guy who never had a plan when he left high-school. When everyone else was applying to college, scoring great internships, and pursuing their careers, I was still trying to decide my path in life. I still am. Four years later, I’m almost done with my term in the military, and find myself at another great crossroads in life. Where do I go? I have plans set in place, and a future to look forward to, but no plan is watertight. I expect there to be many more potholes along the road to my future.

If you were to ask me where I would be in the next five years, I can tell you where I think I might be, but I can’t tell you for sure. I don’t know. Life changes. However, as much as that scares me, I can’t allow it to hold me back. And you must not let such fears of uncertainty delay your ventures either.

Your entire life is in front of you! It is scary at times, but part of the excitement is that life is fluid. You always have the opportunity to change paths, learn more, and change the world! Rather than allow fear of the unknown to hold you down, let it embolden you to seize the day and take your life into your hands.

In the words of Horace the poet and to quote Robin Williams in the Dead Poets Society, “Carpe Diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.” Don’t allow fear to rule your life. Though this life is full of uncertainty and though you may find yourself in situations that will try you mentally, emotionally, financially, or otherwise, you are in charge of how you respond to the ups and downs of life. Take charge of your life, and don’t let anyone hold you back!
